This is the most systematic book on poker I have ever
read. It starts you off as if you have never played a
hand of poker in your life and moves you step by step
into advanced strategy. The material on bluffing,
position, tells, and character types are the best
anywhere. It covers a lot of ground in a quick,
breezy style with no fluff and lots of insight. Better
than books twice the price, and at 289 pages is quite
impressive.
I bought this book for a friend who is learning the
game, but I started reading it and was shocked at its
depth. It is billed as sort of an introductory book, but
in a very logical manner it quickly leads you into some
very advanced concepts. It is written in a disarmingly
breezy style and is an easy read, but the ideas and the
way they are presented are as good as I've read. The
chapters on bluffing, betting, position, isolation,
table image and player profiles are absolutely top
notch. The fact that Johnny Quads is not only a top
player and dealer but also a writer really comes
through. Better than many more expensive tomes.

Johnny has two more books in
stores now. The first is a condensed version of
“Everything Poker Strategy” called “The Only Poker Book
You’ll Ever Need.” It is designed as a quick reference
for relatively new players. It covers the principles of
poker from Johnny’s unique viewpoint as well as some
hold’em, tournament and online strategy. Johnny suggests
getting “Everything Poker Strategy” instead of the
shorter book, which he says is just too short to get the
job done.
The second book is exclusively on Texas hold’em and
delves deeper into strategy and tactics than the first
one, while eliminating some of the more basic stuff. The
first book assumed the reader knew nothing, not even the
basic hands. “The Everything Hold’em Book” gives the
reader credit for some basic knowledge and experience
and builds on that. The hard-core chapters on hold’em
strategy have been expanded and the there is twice as
much on winning no-limit tournaments. In general, the
book is an easy read on the philosophy of poker for new
players and intermediate players who do not have a solid
background in poker theory.
